Why private cellular

When wifi is the wrong tool

Wifi was designed for laptops in offices. It struggles in the places that now depend on wireless most: metal-dense factories, outdoor yards, long corridors, and anywhere a device moves while it works.

Coverage per radio

Cellular propagates further and penetrates better than wifi at comparable power, so a site is covered with fewer radios, fewer cable runs and fewer places to fail.

Mobility that holds

Handoff between cells is directed by the network rather than decided by the device. A robot, an automated guided vehicle or a scanner crossing a facility keeps its session instead of dropping and reconnecting.

Predictable performance

Traffic can be given guaranteed treatment per application, so a control system is not competing with a video stream for the same air.

SIM-based identity

Devices authenticate with a credential in hardware rather than a shared password on a sticker. Revoking access means revoking a SIM.

Spectrum you can use

CBRS in the 3.5 GHz band made private cellular available without buying a licence at auction, which is what put this within reach of a single site.

A private network keeps traffic on premises. Nothing has to traverse a carrier to get from a device to the system it talks to.

The licensed environment changes as new assignments are granted. A network planned against a snapshot can be re-checked against the current record.

Why buy the devices and the network together. Device problems and network problems look identical from the help desk. When the camera and the network it rides on come from different suppliers, an outage becomes an argument. We would rather own both and answer the question.
How we choose equipment

We are not tied to one manufacturer

We buy through national distribution rather than carrying a single vendor's line. That means we specify what fits your site, your environment and your budget, instead of what we happen to be contracted to sell.

Selection follows the site

Camera choice at a lit loading dock is not the choice at an unlit perimeter in fog. Being independent means the answer can change with the conditions.

Broad catalogue access

Distribution gives us the major manufacturers' lines, so the constraint on a design is what the site needs rather than what one vendor happens to make.

You are not locked in

Standards-based selection wherever it exists. If you replace us later, you should not have to replace the equipment too.

How a deployment runs

1. Assess
Requirements, devices, applications and the physical environment. Spectrum assessment of the site against the public licensing record.
2. Design
Radio placement, channel plan, core and network integration, device and SIM strategy, and a written bill of materials you can put out to bid.
3. Procure
Supply of the network hardware, software and support, and of the devices that will run on it, through national distribution.
4. Deploy
Installation, configuration, integration with existing network and identity systems, and validation against the design.
5. Support
Ongoing monitoring, change management, and re-assessment as the site and the surrounding licensed environment change.
